Day 64 – Tuesday 21 September 2021 – 78 Km
This morning was pack up & move again, this time a leisurely drive down to Proserpine. We departed Bowen around 9.45am and encountered lots of roadworks along the relatively short drive. The countryside is very dry with patchy shrubs. We arrived in Proserpine around 11am & checked in to the caravan park & set up. After set up we had an early lunch then ventured into town, first stop was the Proserpine Museum. The museum is full of interesting stuff & is well laid out. One interesting fact we found out is that Midge Point is not named after a proliferation of the nasty biting insects at that place. Midge Point is named after the boat that discovered the point, a small boat called the Midge, from a ship called the HMS Fly. Amazing the small things you discover.
There are some interesting stories in this museum of some adventurous people & there are also some items of history that are not that well known, such as the poisonous gas testing during the 2nd World War.
Next was a bit of grocery shopping plus looking for a new toaster as our trusty toaster died this morning & it was binned in Bowen. It took a bit of a search but we found one in IGA after checking out a few other shops. On the walk along the Proserpine main street we came across a mobile ice cream vendor, so we tasted some local ice cream. The temperature was 35C so it was a welcome refresher. Back to our Karavan, pack away then a game of cards then dinner. Another great day.
